A Christmas present for Brian in West Seattle
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
I am always amazes me - the POWER of the Internet. I have had people phone me from India, Africa, Israel, Canada, all over the US and Australia with questions about wood floors. About a week ago I got a very interesting request from Canada. Brian's brother who lives in England found my website about teaching wood floors. What made it more interesting is I live relatively close to Seattle. He passed the information on to his mother in Canada. Brian's mother called me and told me that Brian had just purchased a house in West Seattle and he was very independent and didn't want help from his family. The family wanted to purchase my services as a Christmas present. I just finished helping Brian with sanding the white oak floors in two bedrooms. When he wanted to pay me I said,"Merry Christmas". This is a Christmas present from your family. I suggested that he call his mother in Canada and brother in England and just say, "Thank You". |

Getting ready to start drum sanding. Brian is preparing for a loud noise.

Attaching the 220 power to my drum sander, "Nellie"

Starting to sand the first bedroom floor

Nearing completion fo sanding the first direction. I have been teaching Brian how to operate a drum sander successfully

Sanding the second direction in the first bedroom

The belt around my waist is actually a girth for a horse saddle. I allows me to use just my legs to resist the pull of the machine and saves my back.

Brian holds the cord as I sand near the doorway

Amazed at how little dust there is, I explain how the vacuum system works on "Nellie"

Putting the cover back on "Nellie"

Brian feels how much dust is in the bag from just rough sanding the first bedroom. He gets the job of emptying the bag.

I am explaining how the we will use 60 grit sandpaper after the 36 grit sanding is done. The final sanding will be 100 grit.

Brain and Frances get to do all the edging.

The before and after. "Nellie" is in the hall which won't be sanded this time. Note the wooden floor grate on the right.

Ready for the final sanding with a square buffer which Brian will do after I am gone.

After the final sanding this room will be stained Pecan. I gave instructions on how to do this.

This is where my job ends. Brian can call me if he has any questions.

There is a hole in this closet that Brian will repair.

Another direction of the bedrooms

Last picture. Have a Merry Christmas. Give someone a wood floor for Christmas.
