A Home Run for America in Softball
By Franklyn Gallup of BibleFree.org
Every once in a while I have a touching, inspirational story find me. I am a firm believer that sports is a great character builder. I often see or hear of athletes exemplifying all that is good in people. Doing the right thing even if it requires self sacrifice. The Sara Tucholsky story is just one such story. I feel this story illustrates some of what is good in America. The situation is two girls college softball teams are in the a battle to win the Western Conference and moving on to the playoffs. Sara Tucholsky who had NEVER EVER hit a home run hits one out of the park. When Sara starts to run the bases out of excitement she misses tagging first base. As she turns to go back and touch first base she throws out her knee. In agony she crawls back to first base. Sara was told that she would be called out if any of her teammates came to her aid. If a pinch runner checked into the game, her home run would count only as a single. Players and fans alike were stunned when Central Washington first baseman Mallory Holtman, the conference's all-time home run leader, asked the umpire if there was any rule against opponents helping an injured player around the bases. She was told that there was not. Together, Mallory Holtman and shortstop Liz Wallace picked up Sarah and carried her around the bases, stopping at each bag to allow Sara to touch it with her good leg. The opposing team helped Sara with the winning home run. Click here to see the video There are other similar videos to watch after you view the one above. |

A softball can be a great teacher

Homeplate at a local ballpark

The familiar chain link around Home plate

Who's not on first base

What is not on second base?

I don't know has gone home

No batter, no batter, no batter

What's wrong with this pitcher?

A long way from home.

Thanks.
A great example in the lime light and deservedly so but remember that this sort of thing happens every single day of your life. The person who sees you drop something and picks it up for you.... The person who sees that something isn't quite right and investigates.... The person who notices that you can't see and helps explain what is happening.... The person who notices that you are late and covers for you.... The person who 'looks the wrong way' to avoid penalising you.... Life, itself, is one long inspirational story but, for most of the time, nobody notices.

Well!, It's good to see a comment from Arthur on Franklyn's intel. I enjoyed the intel and enjoyed as much hearing from theOldCoot.

This is what America and being American is all about. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It is so refreshing to hear the good news occasionally, instead of only the bad.

I still remember the life lessons I learned while playing Little League baseball. You can't hit the ball unless you swing. Outfielders are just as important as the pitcher and catcher if you wait long enough. Everything has some political element to it. Life isn't always fair. If it's raining, don't worry. The sun will come out another day.
That's a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing.
Great story, I watched the video. Sport was the winner that day.

What a great story. And to think that it is true! I had tears in my eyes by the time I finished watching the video. The music was a nice touch also.

That is a truly heart warming story and the definition of good sportsmanship.
Sara's story reached me through an email from a piano student in 2008. Each time I watch this inspiring video I start crying! Well said Franklyn... you hit the ball out of the park with this intel! :)

Thanks. It is a touching story. I cry too every time I view it!! I was doing a little shopping for baby grands yesterday. They were starting at $9,000. Maybe I should put some money into fixing the baby grand I have.
Thanks for sharing this.
