Add a site search engine to your website today, for Free
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
Helping people find exactly what they are looking for on your website is really as simple as adding a website Search Engine. This is a lot easier than you might think. I did a search on Google for free website search engine and found a neat little website called FreeFind.com There is no difficult code to figure out and it is just a simple copy and paste process. My website has over 4000 pages to it and I often have trouble finding the exact page to direct people to when they call me on the phone. Here's what I did: 1 I went to FreeFind.com and put in my main website URL which is WoodFloorist.com 2 I added my email address 3 I clicked on the Instant Sign-up button Within minutes I had an email with a link to my FreeFind Control Center and my generated password. I highlighted the password and copied it and clicked on the link to my control page and logged in. I followed steps 1 and 2. 1 I clicked on the Build Index tab at the top and clicked on the finish button. 2 I clicked on the HTML tab at the top and selected the search box I wanted on my website. The first email arrived at 10:12 AM . The second email arrived at 11:06 AM with the subject: Your site, http://woodfloorist.com/, has been spidered! The email informed me that they had indexed 2352 pages. This means that they had collected all the keywords on 2352 pages and added them to the possible search results. I added the HTML code to my website at WoodFloorist.com. Let's test this out to see if they did a good job and if this is something you would like on your website. Go to my website at WoodFloorist.com. Right to the right of the picture of the goldfish I inlaid into a wood floor you will see the search box. Notice they also gave me a Free site map too. Put the name of one of the fifty states in the search box and see how many pages there are on Woodfloorist.com with that state mentioned. Let's really test it and put the name of your city or town in the search box and see if your city or town is on my website. Just for fun do a search for Health to see if I* have a healthy website. Tell me your results in a comment. There's a link right below the search box to get a Free personalized search engine for your website. |

I have freefind on my site as a site map but I did not know you could use it as a search engine. Have you ever used the search tool that google provides?
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Your FreeFind site map also offers a internal search function as well. This is quite different than the Google search function that people add to their website. I myself use Google Adsense Search and yes it creates an income. The main difference is the Google Search box does an External search of the Internet. The results of any search are about other websites and people leave your website. The FreeFind Search box is an Internal Search Engine. All the results are pages from your website and only from your website. People stay on your website if they click on any result.
With only a total 64Mb limit this would not suit sites with video or lots of content but is certainly worth considering if you have one site.
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Are you saying your host has a 64Mb limit or FreeFind.com does? One of the really nice features of FreeFind.com is they host the results on the searches on their site so. This is nice for two reasons. First it doesn't use up any bandwidth for your hosting and second it creates a link to all your pages from another domain. I have tons of content on my website and lots of videos as well so I don't understand why you think it would not suit large sites. There also is a Pro version to get more capacity if needed.
I haven't tried the search engine you suggest, but I do know that having a site search on a large site is important. I use the Adsense Search code because ..... oh, you know, it ups the coffers a little bit.
Really??? Hmmmmmm. As for the picture, hey, reality works best.

At this point I'm not sure if Reality works or not. Fantasy seems to be really appealing.
That is a pretty nice illustration! I do need a better search for my blog, so this is a timely intel.
Hi Bill, I have a Google search function for my site as well as the rest of the web included. You reach it with button Site Search or just Search in the Index. I tested it a long time ago and it worked. Of course, doing the final click through would not be allowed for myself, as far as other homepages are concerned. All I checked was, if any of my pages came up by its search and they did.

Pretty comprehensive website Gabriele. Maybe I can help in another way. You can replace the Qassia button on your website with this image Qondio Button Picture
Hi Biblefreeorg, The information for installing a Search Engine is informative and elaborate. I would apply it, if didn't have a Search function already.
thanks for the image. Will have to do some thinking ASAP to place the logo. Should be follow and not nofollow as we must reciprocate somehow. Right or not? But I want it to open in new window. Don't know where my head stands with so much work.

It is an image I created for Free on BannerSketch.com which an excellent place to make all kinds of banners of all different sizes for Free. You can use the image without a backlink or with a backlink. If it is follow or no follow link is a function of the HTML code and not the image. You can right click on the picture and save it on your computer and upload it to your website if you wish.
Thank you for this information and also for the link to BannerSketch.com. I have a blog I created a long time ago that I need to move to my own domain and make it more professional looking.
The intel rates a 5, Franklyn. I'm going to print out a copy and read it, so that maybe it will sink into this newbie's head. Your garbage disposal image,I understand. The website is still a big challenge. Thank you for sharing and all of the other comments add to the overall information. Best wishes. Frederick
Thanks heaps Franklyn. Yes the search result for Health on your site that caught my attention is http://woodfloorist.com/Health/Forums_Blogs/index.html
