Black holes mentioned in the Bible

By Franklyn Gallup of BibleFree.org

Some people think the Bible is very outdated. They would be very surprised to find that black holes are actually mentioned in the Bible.

Jude mentions them in Chapter 1 verse 13 which reads:

They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever. NIV.

Black holes are the cold remnants of former stars, so dense that no matter—not even light—is able to escape their powerful gravitational pull.

Doesn't this sound like what Jude is is describing? Perhaps he had a higher source of information.

The critical distance at which nothing can escape is called the Event Horizon. Jude is warning people not to get to a point where there is no return.

Karl Schwarzschild is credited with being the brilliant astronomer who developed the concept of black holes in 1916.

John Michell and John Wheeler are also well known for their contributions to the knowledge of Black holes.

Your thoughts on the idea of black holes and this scriptural reference would be most welcome.

No, that's either a belly button or a closeup of an upholstered sofa

My camera would not take a picture of a black hole no matter how I tried. Just don't do a search for Planet Mandy.

Instead try searching for Planet in Another Galaxy. My site will be #2. I think of it as Intergalactic Search Engine Optimization.

If you can take a picture of a black hole send me the picture.

I think you will find that Jude was speaking of the worst of humanity rather than any form of heavenly body.

Is it a black hole? No, it might have been, once, but seems to have been filled in.

I agree. He was illustrating what not to be. Or rather where not to end up.

I don't know if Jude was referring directly to black holes for comparison purposes or not. But the more you read the Bible, and the more that you study the cosmos, you start to get a sense of a parallel between science and belief. But to me, it's more of a "feel" -- nothing that I can put a direct finger on.

Perhaps I should have written about a Black Whole Note

Or perhaps 4 quarters

Genesis 19:4 KJV
Numbers 34:3 KJV
Joshua 15:5 KJV
Isaiah 47:15 KJV

for a full measure

Genesis 15:16 NIV

I will change my ways. Perhaps I just need a rest.

I'm reminded of the old saying: "There is nothing new under the sun."

Isaiah 24:7 The new wine dries up and the vine withers; all the merrymakers groan.

Never was much of a wine drinker...

I'm just going to have to take your word for this...and I probably will.

so what exactly is that a picture of?

It is a close up picture of a black leather sofa. It is not as some people suppose a belly button.

That bible text about the black holes is truly amazing. There can't have been much of a translation error either.

Oh, my, that looks like a part of an elephant that the proverbial blind men may have missed.

Yes and some people think that part is all there is.
