Goodwill now requiring ID for the men's room
By Franklyn Gallup of Friendlybank.net
I don't know if this is a new local policy or a national one. Yesterday while I was at Goodwill and had to use the men's restroom I not only had to go up to the front desk for the key but had to show identification, and sign a sheet with my name, address and phone number just to get the key. Are things really getting that bad? Is this a sign of the times. I am really starting to wonder if they know what goodwill actually means. Do you think this is because of theft or vandalism? It all seemed a little strange to me. I like shopping at Goodwill. I buy a lot of old suitcases there for use as tool boxes. I find an occasional tool there and I always check to see what books they have added. I also occasionally find some good shoes there too. Size 13 shoes are hard to find sometimes and when I find them at Goodwill the price is hard to beat. Tell me about your experiences with thrift stores like Goodwill. |

I suppose it wouldn't really help matters if you said you were going to leave a "deposit" in the rest room, would it?

If I said that they would probably want a blood sample too.
Not only did you have to show your license and give out your phone number, you were probably on closed circuit TV when you left the rest room. Irresponsible people have brought all merchants, including Goodwill, to take drastic measures of security. Best wishes. Frederick

I know. I just didn't think it had gotten this bad yet. I guess it is better than going to a bank which usually don't have any public rest rooms.
Just figure ID requirements for rest rooms and toilettes becoming habit... Terrorists and all who have something to hide will carry a special ID for such localities. Back to square one...
Goodwill was only making sure that you weren't going to show badwill...

Which just goes to show that where there's a Will there are relatives or at least someone who want to see your ID.
Good grief... I didn't know about all this. My 2 year old grandson is now potty-trained. Needless to say, when he has to go, well he has to go right now. So there would be no time to fill out forms! lol I'll stop by the Goodwill without him, thanks Franklyn! :)

Your grandson could leave a deposit at the front desk.
Great Intel Franklyn. I've never had to show id to use a washroom anywhere in Canada. Sometimes I have to get a key from the front, but having to show id and sign a paper is getting a little "big brother" for me, although having seen what some people do to washrooms, it's understandable that businesses are getting annoyed. If I had ever had to do this before I probably wouldn't have written this Intel. It just seemed a little overly cautious to me but I guess with what some people use restrooms for I guess I'm not surprised. I do remember later wondering if they weren't just creating a mailing list for something they are selling. LOL
It's called 'list building'! Maybe some rabid internet marketer had used the facilities and done a presentation on the benefits(?) of a web site and auto-responder?

Well I am on the list then LOL. Would you like me to add your name to the list?
Wow, I had no idea. I wonder if it has anything to do with assaults in restrooms, as in my community there have been instances of that happening in broad daylight in local stores where people shop.

I took the lemon and made lemonade (no pun intended ... if you can believe that) and wrote this Intel!
I have never heard or seen any of this where I live. Thanks for sharing.

If you send me the phone number of your local Goodwill I can fix that.
Years ago I too would shop at Goodwill in Portland,OR. lately I've decided not to shop there.Over the top.

You think they would be more careful. Perhaps they don't realize they have used bedpans for sale.
