Healthcare - The National Discount Health Directory

By Franklyn Gallup of NationalDiscountHealth.net

I am the Senior Managing Director of the National Discount Health Directory. Come to think of it, I am the only director of the Directory. I am also the Webmaster of the site. It is a work in progress.

The Directory has a map of all 50 USA States.

If you click on a state on the USA Map you will go to the page with cities of over 6000 population for that state.

For example, if you click on the state of Alabama you will go to the web page of Cities and towns of over 6000 residents in Alalbama

If you look down the page you will see links to Cities, towns, and villages in Alabama between 1000 and 6000 residents

and

Towns, and villages in Alabama with fewer than 1000 residents. Virtually every major city, town and village in the United States is listed.

There is also a link to Health Forums and Blogs

If you have a Forum or blog about health, Health care, Medical Facilities, Doctors Health Insurance or anything else related to health let me know and I will add a link to it on that page for free.

My goal is to make a resource with health related information about every city and town in the United States. It is a huge undertaking and I work a little on it every chance I get.

Let's look at the Alabama page for a minute. Scroll down and click on the state of Alabama on the map.

You will notice the first city listed is Alabaster, Alabama. If you live in or near Alabaster, Alabama and made a web page, blog or Intel related to health in the city and were the first person to let me know about it, I would make that name into a link to your site.

This applies to any city and town in the Directory.

Good luck with it - a noble undertaking...

Thanks. Health care is a pretty important issue these days.

Sounds like a big undertaking, and a useful one. Good luck with your project.

“Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?”

Robert Browning

Having grown up in a country where national health was seen as a national responsibility, there seems to be something a little tasteless about a supposedly rich and civilised country requiring such a directory.

It makes me wonder about those who can't even afford the discounted service.

Here in the US we even have phone books which aren't so much about helping people find things they are looking for although they do that also, but about creating a place to sell advertising.

Yes, tasteless advertising space. Hey it buys groceries for my wife and I.

Hi Franklyn,

Great intel and a noble project. Since Canada has a national health care system, which by the way, was started in the Province of Saskatchewan, there are all sorts of ways of learning what is available. The newest thing in several provinces is a toll free telephone number which puts the caller in touch with a health care professional, usually a registered nurse, that can answer your questions. We also have poison control phone numbers we can call is we suspect that someone has injested a poison. Some provinces charge a fee for their health services and some include it as a "free" benefit of the tax system. The biggest problem right now is finding enough doctors and nurses to keep the system running properly. As our population grows and ages, doctors are retiring or quitting from over work and we can't interest enough young people to go through seven years of training followed by one or more years of internship to take on a job that has long hours and constant call backs.

I think that is one of the drawbacks of a nationalized system. It takes some of the financial incentive out of being a doctor or nurse. Of course that is only my opinion but it seems like it would anyway.

When you have a government bureaucracy "practicing medicine" without a license, I would think is would take some of the incentive out of costly research into new drugs and technology that a private and free market provides.

Thanks for the information. It seems like health care is getting out of control.

Maybe they should call it "sick care"
