Keyholes are like noses, everyone has one
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
One of the secrets of good photography is to take lots of pictures especially now that digital cameras make doing so very inexpensive. I recently discovered a subject that proved to be very interesting and challenging. Keyholes seem to come in all shapes and sizes and they seem to be everywhere. What I was looking to do is make a collection of hey holes using a macro setting so the keyhole took up the whole picture. This became an exercise in focus, camera steadiness, light, avoiding reflections and shadows. It is not as easy as one might first expect. I went into an antique store to add to the variety of key holes for my collection. I told the person there I was taking a course in photography which I am and that the assignment this week was Key holes. She found that very satisfying that someone would be taking the time to learn photography. Since no one else was in the store she proceeded to find every piece of furniture and chest with a keyhole. I followed her with my camera and took pictures of each one focusing on focus, no movement, and lighting. The collection is on my website at Keyholes . This also includes keyhole pictures from my home, the old railroad station, Sears and stores downtown. I was surprised to learn Sears does not sell keyed padlocks anymore. What I find interesting is the keywords that go along with describing the keyhole. There is a keyhole on McDonald's, Burger King, and every other business. By having a keyhole page I not only have new key pictures but also a lot of new keywords. Searching for "Google keyhole" for example, will bring you to Google's earth mapping. Next weeks assignment is old cameras and the week after that is coffee cups. If you would like to submit some pictures there is a form on my website to do so. |
