Musical song to memorize the books of the Bible

By Franklyn Gallup of Biblefree.org

I was working on my Twitter profile and ran into something very interesting. I mean besides learning I can promote my Twitter profile on Qondio (and you can too).

Someone did a song to the music of "La Bamba" by Richie Valens only using the names of the books of the Bible as lyrics. It's kinda like learning the ABC's with the Alphabet song. Don't worry it's in English except for the first two lines and the third from the last line.

Here is the link ApologetiX - La Bible If you click on this link it will open in a new window. Watch the video once. Then hit replay and come back to this Intel and sing along. I couldn't figure out how to make a bouncing ball in an Intel but I think you can handle it.

Here are the words: (there are no chapters or verses)

Fa la la la la Bible! Fa la la la la Bible!

You better read and you put it is better (I think)

Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus

Numbers Deuteronomy

Joshua, Judges and Ruth

Then 1 & 2 ...Samuel &... Kings &... Chronicles

Ezra, Nehemiah & Esther

And then Job ... Psalms & Proverbs

Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon (Song of Solomon)

... then Isaiah ... Jeremiah ... Lamentations ...

un huh...

Ezekiel, Daniel, ...Hosea ...

Joel, Amos ... Obadiah ... and Jonah, Micah ...

Nahum, Habakkuk

and

... Zephaniah ... and

Haggai, Zechariah

after these, there's

Malachi

(Lead solo on the guitar)

Matthew, Mark, Luke and John ...

Acts of the Apostles ... and Romans ...

1, 2 Corinthians

Galatians, Ephesians,

Philippians, Colossians

1, 2 Thessalonians ...

and 1, 2 Timothy

Titus, Philemon ... Hebrews

James 1, 2 Peter ...

1, 2,3 John ...

Jude, Revelation!

That's the Bible

A la Bible

I learned a song, to learn the books of the Bible, not exactly the same as this, when I was a small child. Only we sang it without an instrument. I still remember it. Very good to help children learn the books.

I think the trick with this song is to learn one phrase at a time.

For example, first learn

Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus

With the video you can pause it when this line finishes and then click on the red line and then hit play so it replays that line. Repeat until you have it memorized

The do Numbers Deuteronomy and have fun rolling the sing song sound of Deuteronomy

Learn all the phrases one at a time and then put them all together and sing Karaoke style with the video.

I would love it if you added your song in a comment.

I'm sure a musical approach to memorizing the books would make the task much easier. Interesting intel.

I am working on adding screen shots of each phrase. Imagine if churches gave sets of all the pictures to their members and each member memorized each screen shot.

It could become part of the worship service. I can see it now, the live contemporary music team playing the music with the words on the overhead. Add some clapping and you have a good worship song.

Hi Franklyn,

Great Intel. Years ago when I was stationed in Ottawa, Canada, I attended a Catholic Service with a French Canadian family who my wife and I chummed with. I'm not Catholic, but this service really caught my attention and made it memorable. Instead of having an organist, they had a rock band that played the hymns. The tempo was a little faster and more "bouncy." The church was full and there were a lot of young people in attendance. Even the elderly ladies were singing along, swaying and clapping their hands. It might be something that other churches may want to consider, especially if their attendance is slipping.

Many churches offer a more contemporary style of music to attract the younger generation. Both electric and acoustical guitars, piano, electronic keyboards, maracas, drum sets, and even xylophones are among some of the instruments used instead of a church organ in services today.

Many churches offer both a contemporary and traditional service at different times to appeal to both older and younger generations.

Welllllll now.........! This could work. I worked with 8 year olds in Sunday School who know the order much better than me. Perhaps I should try this.

I think the trick would be to sing it with kids who know the order better than you do. ..... or so I've been told!

Once I get all the pictures added I am going to make them into a slide show so you can just click to the next picture at the proper time. I will add the link to the slide show on the external links.

This would probably work for me. Even if I didn't learn it, it would be a lot more fun.

You have a winner here. I love this! I played keys for a biker church and we did a Creedence Clearwater song to Christian words. I love La Bamba so I've got to try this. Thanks so much Franklyn.

I am now wondering if this would work with some Big Bopper or Buddy Holly songs

Biker Church? You do know I am a member of HarleyMinistries.com don't you?

I already know the books of the Bible by heart. I'll be interested to have a look at your illustrations along with the music. Great Intel, Franklyn.

Wow... great site! My hubby has a Harley... 2000 Dyna Wide Glide. It's easy for me to fall asleep on the back riding through the country! :)

I remember when my father was going through his mid life crisis and came home with a 1500cc full dress Indian. My mother didn't think too much of it as I remember.
