Playground sets are great for abstract photography
By Franklyn Gallup of FriendlyBank.us
Yesterday, as I was coming home from the Rainier Funny Farm I wanted to treat Marley to a walk in the Tenino, WA City Park for spending so much time in the car. She really is a patient dog. I have been having to take her with me while my wife is away in Florida spending time with the grand kids. I just hate leaving her home alone all day. As usual I like to take may camera along just in case I see something interesting. As Marley was busy smelling everything I was drawn to the colorful playground set in the park. As we got closer I thought I would take some interesting abstract pictures to add to my collection. Playground sets make for some interesting pictures especially when they are royal colors. Royal red, yellow. blue, green, orange interwoven into fascinating designs make for good photography. It is fun to try and get an interesting perspective or a picture out of context. Something as innocent as a yellow slide can make an extraordinary picture subject when you play with the angle of light and reflection. My first picture was of inside the crawl through tubes which were bright yellow. I played with the zoom to get some interesting content at the end of the tunnel. As with most photography especially with digital cameras is to take lots and lots of pictures and occasionally you will "accidentally" end up with an extraordinary shot. It's the law of averages sometimes. Often I don't realize how the camera is going to see the shot as I am taking it and am pleasantly surprised when I download it to my laptop and look at the final picture in full size. My next picture was of gears and pistons. The picture includes yellow, blue, red, green and black. With the interactive design this makes an interesting picture. Even a solid color if it is on an interesting design makes an interesting picture. I took a picture of the deck which was blue with a design of holes in it. The thing I like is I can crop small parts of each picture to make a one of a kind new picture. By adding some of the effects on Photoshop I can make a very interesting unique background for a new webpage for example. My next picture was of a red metal ladder looking down so the wood chips on the ground makes for an interesting contrast. When I had taken quite a few pictures of the colored playground I turned my attention to a climbing gym made from naturally weathered timbers. The unusual angles and designs can make these earthy tones very appealing. One design was a hexagonal tunnel with zipper like joints. I shot this from several angles. Nearby was a climbing gym made from overlapping timbers in a pyramid design. I'll bet the kids love to play on this. The City Park is next to an old stone quarry and I added some pictures of the left over blocks of stone to my collection while I was there. One of the tricks I have had to learn to master is to take pictures while holding Marley on a leach. Often times I get the picture I want and Marley runs to the end of the 16 foot retractable leach and causes me to move. I love the challenge and Marley is getting better as my assistant. So in conclusion, I would say you don't have to be a kid to enjoy the playground at the park. Just bring a camera and a dog.

Looking at a bright yellow crawl through gym from a gerbil's perspective

The Tenino City Park sign gives me a reverence point to location

Yellow, blue, red green and black added with the interative design make this and interesting picture.

The red metal ladder looking down so the wood chips on the ground makes for an interesting contrast.

Looking down the yellow slide

Red, yellow blue and green come together in this picture.

There is no need to worry about this police car.

Playing with reflections off a clear plastic dome.

Bright colors and designs make this interesting.

Light reflecting of the curved yellow slide will work well for a webpage background.

Tic tock dough design

Again four basic colors combine in interesting ways.

Just tilting the camera can produce an interesting effect.

Colors and interactive designs.

A closeup picture of some colorful springs.

The hexagonal tunnel mixes earth tones, geometric designs and nature.

Taking pieces of the tunnel for abstract design effect.

Notice how the wood grain, shadows and design come together here.

The outside zipper design of the timbers.

The timher climbing gym in a pyramid design.

Looking down the corner of the pyramid.

Huge stone blocks of stone left over from days when the quarry was active.

Stones with the shadows, light and moss come together

Oh yes, my home away from home. Looks like a great place for the grandkids and I to run about... what fun! Love the primary colors and the weathered timbers!

I bet your grandkids would love this park. I know Marley did.
Looks like kids would have a field day trying to crawl in and about those toys. I know I would.

I would love to get some pictures of you crawling around in this playground set
I love the wooden tunnel and climbing toy. I would love to build that at my house. Great pictures.

Hmmmm You might just have enough wood to built that at your house.
Great photos, but why no children playing on this fantastic exercise stuff? Very unusual wooden climbing sets...reminds one of having fun with cardboard boxes!

It was a cold day which might have kept the children away.
