Security Plan B - A redneck's guide
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
A few simple ideas for making a backup security system. Many people don't realize it but they already have several backup security systems. Most cars today have a button that will arm and disarm the security system on your car. This is often on your key chain. Simply keep your keys by the bed and at the first sign of an intruder click the button several times. The beep may be all it takes to draw unwanted attention the intruder doesn't want. You should also keep a remote for the automatic garage door near your bed. Most garage doors make noise when they open and turn on a light as well. These two things could scare off an uninvited guest. The TV remote for the TV downstairs could also turn on the TV and create sound that may scare off intruders. Our Security expert, Kevin has some more advanced security measures which are on his videos. He works with Chris Columbus so some of these ideas are really old. These are great ideas! They almost make me wish I lived in a populated area. But..., where can a burglar go on a small island, 5 hours from nowhere? LOL! I'm going to pass this on to my nieces.
Excellent suggestions Thanks for posting.
Makes sense to me. I found the "redneck" thing amusing. Regards, Jim
Some very useful ideas to create effective deterrents and tactics to scare off the amateur burglar. good intel.
So obvious when someone tells you about it, isn't it?
And I thought rednecks were all about shotguns and pitbulls. Or maybe those are Plan A?

Great ideas! I love the TV remote, you could really give someone a fright depending on what's on the channel at that moment. I used a smoke detector alarm once in a similar way, to make a lot of noise and scare them off. I was alone in a large house I'd just moved into. Our phone wasn't yet working and I was just about to go to sleep when I was certain that an intruder had entered the house thinking no one was staying there yet. It sounded like they were moving furniture and rummaging through the unpacked boxes in the living room below my bedroom. A couple weeks later my flatmate arrived, spent one night in the house and told me the next morning that the house was haunted! Ha, I thought it was a burglar, but it was a ghost, or several. And yes, the house was truly haunted.
