The artificial birthmark
By Franklyn Gallup of BibleFree.org
I have been truly blessed with three children. When my daughter Maria was three years old I was in the hospital waiting for the results of the Ultrasound. They asked my wife if she wanted me to come in at one point and she said yes. As I walked in the room the first thing I heard one of the nurses say was, "They're fighting already." I thought, "They?" I soon learned we were going to have twin boys. That was a pretty amazing day. Everything we had planned for supplies automatically doubled. Two cribs, twice the diapers, formula,...and everything else. Adam and Matthew are not only identical twins but they are special identical twins known as mirror twins. They are identical like your right hand is identical to your left hand. One is right brain dominant and one is left brain dominant. Adam was pulling A's without hardly trying and Matthew was struggling just to keep a C average. I think that has a lot to do with the way schools structure their teaching to favor one way of thinking. As parents we always felt it important to stress that the twins were individuals. We rarely dressed them identically. There are many interesting stories about the twins and one comes to mind about when they were in daycare. We had found a great school which really helped them prepare for kindergarten with not only academics but also with social skills. The teachers were having trouble telling the two apart. They looked that similar. The only way some of the teachers could tell them apart is that Matthew had a small birthmark on his neck. Mole = Matthew. The head teacher was aware of this and decided to have some fun one day. He took a magic marker and put an "artificial birthmark" on Adam's neck. He then waited to see what would happen. Sure enough it didn't take long before one of the teachers was admonishing Adam for something. The teachers were calling him Matthew and Adam firmly corrected them saying he was Adam. The teachers told him that they weren't fooled and that they knew he was Matthew. Of course then they looked at Matthew and pandemonium broke out. The twins thought it was hilarious as did the head teacher.

Contributor's Note
Fraternal twins are related to a history of twins in the genealogy . Identical twins happen by chance and are as likely to happen in families with a history of twins as families with no twins in the genealogy.

Thanks for the pictures with the Intel
I think it's fantastic that the teacher had such a sense of humor.
It sounds like you had your hands full. I know a set of twins from my church. After all of these years, I still don't know which one is which...
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
I knew I was in trouble when even I had trouble telling them apart when they were sleeping. When awake the personalities were quite different. Matthew was very extroverted and Adam was introverted and self conscious. On several occasions if Adam wanted to meet someone new he would have Matthew "break the ice" and then Adam would join the conversation.
Your sons are darling, I am sure as much now so as in that picture. Your intel reminds me of Mark Twain's story of The Prince and the Pauper. You are so right about the way schools tend to structure teaching.
