The Mindset of an Online Magician
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
Have you ever considered making an online magic trick? I would like to illustrate the thinking and planning that was involved with creating one using the Le Woogie Card Trick! Click here to see how this looks Leave the page open as you read this Intel for reference. This was a card trick my wife, Adrianna Dane sent me in an email. Taking a magic trick from an email and reformatting it so it works as a webpage takes some planning and redesigning. If you are not familiar with this trick it uses misdirection as many magic tricks do. The first page contains six cards. In my example they are the 7 of Clubs, the 6 of Hearts, the 8 of Clubs, the 7 of Diamonds, the 6 of Spades, and the 8 of Diamonds. You are instructed to pick a card but not to click on it. Then you are to scroll down and think about your card in front of Le Woogie for 20 seconds. After you think about your card you are told to click on a link. The magic is that Le Woogie has removed your card on the second page. Or so it seems! The truth is none of the cards on the first page are on the second page so no matter which card you choose on the first page it will appear to have been removed on the second page. Many people miss this since they are focusing on only the one card they chose they don't notice all the other cards. The cards are similar 6,7, and 8 of red and black suits. It's magic!! To create this page I had to first, save all the pictures from the email on my computer. There are 11 card pictures and the picture of Le Woogie. I saved them as GIF's which are how they appear on my page. Using the "Paint Program" I magically changed them to jpg's to upload them to this Intel. I renamed them with 1 and 2 for which page they belonged on and the number on the card and the suits D, C, H and S so I could keep track of them as I made the webpages. I then had to make 2 webpages that were very similar. I added the links to the pictures of the first six cards on the first page and the links to the second set of cards on the second page. I added the picture of Le Woogie on both pages. The mindset of a magician told me that since the page instructs you NOT to click on the cards that is exactly what many people will do. They will click on the cards. So I made two additional webpages which basically said you are not supposed to click on the cards and one that said you are not supposed to click on Le Woogie. I added some of the titles of books my wife has written on these "error pages". I also added links to other magic sites. I could have made a separate webpage for each card but I didn't ... YET! I have had some fun with these webpages over several years. I had one case where two people picked two different cards at the same time. They were amazed the all powerful Le Woogie removed both cards. I got a good laugh. As simple as this sounds you will be amazed at how many people will try it over and over as I put the link to the first webpage on the second webpage to try it again. Now for my next trick I will need an assistant. You reading this Intel, could you help me out? I would like you to send the link to the first webpage to everyone you know. Can you email it to your friends, add it to your daily Twitter, Facebook, blog or MySpace? The rest is Magic!

Great fun! Thanks for the help! Took me awhile to figure out what/who Le Woogi was.
