The night the moon had wings
By Franklyn Gallup of Friendlybank.net
It was a cool crisp night. I was out walking the dog and as usual I was looking at the night sky in awe of the vastness of the universe. I couldn't help but notice the moon and the way the moonlight gave the appearance of wings to the surrounding clouds. After I took our dog, Marley back in I came back out with my camera. Night photography is a little tricky so I took several pictures to see if I could capture the moon and the clouds together. The problem is that there is such a contrast between the brightness of the moon and the darkness of the sky surrounding it. The camera tends to want to overcompensate one way or the other for the brightness or the darkness. Practically, I should be getting a better SLR digital camera and use a tripod and time exposure for this kind of shot. That's just not in the budget right now. After several shots I ended up with the picture below. I think it came out quite well all things considered. After doing a search on Google for the title of this Intel I was happy to see that one of my favorite movies, "It's a Wonderful Life" was number three. Lassoing the moon and Clarence getting his wings. I like it!! And also Thomas Moore: Fly not yet; ’t is just the hour When pleasure, like the midnight flower That scorns the eye of vulgar light, Begins to bloom for sons of night And maids who love the moon. Fly not yet.

After I posted this I went shopping for for a better camera and the camera shop had a huge telescope in the front of the store. The owner and I got to talking and he told me about a 24 inch telescope nearby. It is an observatory at a local school and I hope to go check it out tonight. I also found there wasn't much info about it online so I think it will make a good Intel.
Sounds good. Looking forward to reading it and seeing a few more photos perhaps.

Thanks. I will be heading to Onalaska, WA in about an hour to check out a 24 inch telescope.
Hi Franklyn, Great Intel and awesome photo. Good luck with the telescope. gilbertg
Great photo! My confidential and reliable scientific sources tell me that the moon comes out of its day cave at night and travels to its night cave. Obviously that night it was in a particular hurry. -- Probably late for dinner...
I love the title and awesome photo of your intel. Congrats!
wow thats an impressive photo! I can never figure out how to take decent night shots. nice job.
Nice pic. Was this a eclipse of some sort? Sure is a pretty picture.

This was just clouds playing with the moonlight.
