The volleyball posts I never did
By Franklyn Gallup of TheLeadDawg.us
My daughter was on the freshman volleyball team at her high school in Cobleskill, NY. She was tall for her age and none of the freshman uniforms would fit her. During a volleyball game with a neighboring school the coach for the other school complained about my daughter wearing a Senior uniform. Even though this rule of matching uniforms only applied to Junior and Senior volleyball her coach gave in and my daughter had to sit out the whole game. Now my daughter really loved playing volleyball and she was very upset about not being able to play. What the other coach didn't know was that I was the one who installed the metal sleeves for the new volleyball net. These are metal tubes about 2 feet long and about 4 inches in diameter. The sleeves need to be installed under the floor through a five inch hole. This is a very difficult process as they need to be set in concrete and need to be absolutely level in all directions. These sleeves make it so you don't have to have wires and standards on the floor itself to hold up the poles. You just open the little brass door and stick in the poles and hang the net. It just happened that the other school just bought the same kind of net and was looking for someone to install the sleeves so they could use it. The coach was admiring what a good job I had done and wanted me to come and install them at her school. My daughter's coach passed on the information. I basically never called the school and the coach asked my wife who worked at the school why I didn't call to do the job. My wife explained that I wasn't going to install them because of the uniform incident. He was amazed that I would pass up an $800 job for that reason. At any rate the other school went through a whole season with a new volleyball net they couldn't use all for the sake of a non-matching uniform. |
