Top 10 Free Places to Have a Blog
By Franklyn Gallup of WoodFloorist.com
I am looking to have some people on the hour4hourtimeexchange write online reviews of my Intels with an in-text link to the Intel they are reviewing. I began to think about this and realized some of the people may not have a blog to write the review on. I might have to teach them how to write a blog. I decided to create a list of the top 10 places to have a blog. You may find this a helpful resource as well. If I have missed one that you think should be added to the list add a live link to it in the comments. With the popularity of blogs I was surprised to find that no one had written an article with the title "Top 10 places to have a blog". The name of the host just after the number is a link to sign up for an account. I have added samples of what it might look like by adding a "Click Here" link for each host. All of these blogs offer a wide variety of ways to change the appearance so these samples are just that, a sample. You can customize your blog to your taste. Here's my list with some comments 1. Blogger I found this blog host to be very easy to use. It is connected to Google.com to see a sample of what a blog post might look like Click Here If you currently use blogger I would like to hear about your experience with it. 2. WordPress Wordpress is easy to use and very popular. For someone who has never written a blog before I would suggest reviewing the short tutorial at http://learn.wordpress.com/ To see what a Wordpress post would look like Click here 3. Livejournal To see a sample post on LiveJournal Click Here 4. Blog.com Blog.com offers free blog hosting with unlimited bandwidth for their free package. To see what a post might look like on Blog.com Click Here 5. Multiply To see what a post might look like on MultiplyClick Here 6. Weebly To see a post on Weebly Click Here 7. Free Blog Hosting This is powered by Thoughts.com and is very interesting. It is somewhat like Twitter, Somewhat like Shares and somewhat like a blog. Click here to see the home page. 8. ZoomShare Click Here to see what a Zoomshare post might look like. 9. Webs.com Webs.com offers a lot of easy formatting. I just created a webpage and selected just the blog page. I could not delete the home page so I selected to hide the link form the navigation bar. Click here to see how that looks 10. Tumblr To see what a post on Tumblr would look like Click Here

I am working on adding a little color to my blogs now. I think this is a great way to generate traffic to my Intels.
When I started blogging I used Blogger, which I agree is very easy to use. I then wanted something with something more, so I moved on (I'd say progressed) to WordPress. I have several WP blogs, and I can't fault them, though I actually use wordpress.org which allows all kinds of links rather than the .com version which I appreciate is fully free. I've never really looked at any others to be honest.

Thank you for the information. When I started writing this the title started out as "Top 20 free places to have a blog" but I found out that many that are out there are a form of Wordpress or not actually Free or out of business. I actually didn't have any blog at all myself when I started writing this and wanted to create a resource for myself and others. I narrowed it down to 10 that are actually usable and are not just a free trial. I think that Blogger, WP and LiveJounal are the three main blog sites but included the others as possibilities as well.
Good list, Franklyn. The best of these is Blogger, as it's owned by one who has loads of money to maintain it. We also have the option to make our Blogger site looks like it's not Blogger by using one of the Blogger themes offered free by lots of designers around the Internet and by removing the "blogspot" word in the URL by buying one's desired domain name from godaddy via Blogger at $10 per year.

Thanks for the information. I did see that you could buy a domain name with most of the blog hosting sites and that is a great idea. My goal however was to provide a resource for anyone who actually can't afford the cost of a domain name in these hard times. I felt that anyone who registers with one of these hosts would see the domain option and buy the exclusive right to use a domain if that was financially viable.
I'm a self-taught blogger and it helps to learn from others experience. Great list of info, much appreciated.

I am just starting to blog myself. I thought this would be a great way to start with a variety of different formats and help others too.
I am the latest convert. Look'in forward to exciting times. Thanks for the opportunity.
What is the benefit of having a blog? I have heard it is like a on-line journal or diary. Is that true? If so, why would you want to post it for everyone to see?

A blog is a great way to share knowledge with others around the world. Let's say you knew something about milking goats and you put it on a blog. That information might help someone in another country. You may never meet that person or even know that you helped them. You could share some of your beliefs and have a worldwide ministry. You could totally change someone's life. Or you might add a funny story and make someone laugh in India. Someone who really needs a good laugh to help him or her forget their problems for a brief moment. I believe a blog is about giving to the world something of value without expecting anything in return except the knowledge that you might have helped someone. Johnny Appleseed never met the people who ate the apples from the trees that he planted.
