Using Article Snippets to Build Unique Content Websites
By Franklyn Gallup of FriendlyBank.net
An alternative to using other people's articles for content for a new website is to use a collection of snippets of several articles. Using a collage of article snippets can make a collection which is unique. To get an idea of what this might look like click on the link below. It will open in a new window so you can reference it as you read this Intel. Articles from my Friend Frederick Notice that each snippet is a "taste of each article" with a link after each snippet which says, "...Click here for more" That link goes directly to the article itself and opens in a new window. The advantage of having your links open in new windows is that your webpage doesn't close. When a person closes the article window they will see your webpage again and possibly click on another article. One of the factors in search engine placement is "after click behavior". When someone finds your article snippet webpage though the search engines the search engine monitors how long your visitor stays on the page. The theory is the longer your visitor stays on the page the more relevant your webpage is for those search terms. The more relevant your page is the higher it goes in the rankings. By opening links in new windows the search engines are still timing your page while someone is reading the new window. Also notice the titles of each article link directly to Frederick's profile page. This satifies the requirement for linking to his profile in exchange for using his content. Always check the copyright requirements on articles you use in this manner. If you would like to try your hand at this I would appreciate if you would use My Intels as a starting point. Using 4 to 7 snippets per page this would yeild quite a few new webpages for you. You can vary how much of each article you add oun your webpage. The more variety the more keywords on your page. Once you get the hang of it make article snippet webpages out of allthe Intels those you are following. I will be doing more of this for all my friends. If you need some help please don't hesitate to message me. |

A good idea. Many people fail to recognise the benefits of snippets - even on their own web sites. www.arthurwebster.com was recently destroyed by someone claiming to be a Saudi Arabian hacker so I am rebuilding the site using articles I have written. To make your articles into snippets, simply use HTML editing and enter <!--more--> where you want the snippet to end. This lets you use a lot more articles without the page getting over long.

I took the time to read your story on your website. I can see why publishers would consider it unbelievable. Thanks for the HTML tip.
Another interesting intel, which made me google "snippets web building software." If I can find something worthwhile, this concept could be ideal for a domain I possess, "American Web Writers.com

If you find a snippets web building software that you like please be sure to add a link to it here. Is your domain active? I couldn't find AmericanWebWriters.com
That is an interesting idea and I guess by building a page from snippets, rather than a whole article, you are effectively creating a unique page so it should not necessarily compete with the original work.

That is exactly the idea. By making a web page with several snippets (The first few sentences) and a link to the entire article you are creating unique content rather than duplicate content. You could do a search here on Qondio for "cars" for example and make a web page of snippets to the 5 Intels that have CC copyrights. So you could make the new web page topic specific or author specific like I did with Frederick.
Interesting indeed. I assume the snippet is just the first few lines of their article? I've seen this in blogs. Very useful information. I'll need to think on this a bit to decide how I would like to use it.

Yes a snippet would be the first few lines. This could be one line to as many as you feel are necessary to peek someone's interest. It's the "sizzle" where the article itself is the "steak" Advertisers on my web page seem to like the lawnmower theme. You should also consider monetizing the new page you make as well.
No. I just own the domain name "American Web Writers.com"
Hah, hah, I have built-in verbaldiarrhea* so I can whip out my own snippets faster than consolidating somebody else's, but thanks for the offer *comes from having spent between 15 and 20 years as a grad student in English Lit..bleaghh!

Interesting. I think you might have missed an important point here. If you link to the Intels of others they might very well make a web page linking to your Intels in return. That's Free dofollow back links. You might have the best content in the world but if no one sees it is not very helpful. Back links help with search engine placement which can expose your content to more people.
An EXCELLENT reminder and good examples. I've seen snippets on other web sites and blogs, but never considered using the idea myself.

Thanks for the "EXCELLENT". I have found that by using snippets you actually create a collage of parts of your article which has never been done online before. In short, unique content.
Great idea, enjoyed reading this factual way of presenting. Thankyou Lisa

Thanks. This is a useful skill to learn for people having trouble creating content.
I most have missed this intel when my computer backlight crashed and I was down for 2 weeks. Thank you Franklyn for using my intels as examples of Snippets to build content. Somehow, I've got to learn how to use this computer, so that I can become useful to my fellow followers. I'm still trying to finish up my projects and then the learning curve will be my next project. I really appreciate your friendship and your help, Franklyn. Best to you. Frederick

You are very welcome. Do you really think it is possible to have 500 followers? LOL
With dedicated effort, even more. I know that you will get there, because you give constantly, Franklyn. Best wishes. Frederick
Snippit here snippit there makes the world go round. Can snippits make for more concise works?
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
Yes. You can control the length of the new creation by limiting the number of snippets or by limiting the length of each snippet. It is important to remember though to include enough of the snippet to peak the interest of the person reading it to cause him or her to click to read the whole article.
