Using Funny newsclips to attract visitors

Very often I will create funny newsclips to create interest in many of my websites. The trick here is to make the article seem like a genuine article which is so far fetched that it soon becomes apparent that the article is a spoof.
My Egg Beater story is a prime example. An eggbeater is a common kitchen utensil and I have used it in a criminal context. The word "Notorious" combined with a kitchen utensil quickly becomes humorous to anyone reading it who know what an eggbeater actually is. The picture makes it even more hilarious. The theory here is once you have someone laughing they are more likely to check out your website. I have found this very effective. This of course irritates people who are way too serious to appreciate anything funny. I don't need these people anyway so it filters them out naturally. Another interesting thing that happens is this is often shared through emails and social networks which means a viral marketing effect brings even more people to your webpage. My wife just added it to her Widget. I am sure that will be passed on. |
